Day 1: Arusha to Ngorongoro Conservation Area
Your safari adventure begins with an early morning departure from Arusha, heading west towards the world-renowned Ngorongoro Conservation Area. The drive takes approximately 4–5 hours (depending on road conditions), passing through scenic landscapes of the Great Rift Valley, traditional Maasai villages, and fertile highlands.
En route, you may stop for a break at Lake Manyara viewpoint or a cultural village visit (optional), offering a glimpse into the local way of life.
Upon arrival at the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, you’ll ascend to the crater rim—home to some of the most spectacular views in Africa. Your accommodation tonight is at the Ngorongoro Serena Safari Lodge, https://www.serenahotels.com/ngorongoro perched on the rim of the Ngorongoro Crater. The lodge offers panoramic views into the crater and blends seamlessly with the natural environment.
Spend your evening relaxing on the lodge’s terrace, enjoying the cool highland air and watching the sun set over the crater—a perfect start to your safari journey.
After an early start you will make your way to the cooler regions of the Ngorongoro highlands. On your game drive you have the possibility of seeing all different kinds of mammals ranging from the “Big Five” – lion, elephant, buffalo, rhino and leopard – to Grant’s and Thomson’s gazelles and mountain reedbucks. You might also see spotted hyenas and some of the more than 500 bird species of the area. After a picnic lunch in the crater and some more game viewing, you will leave the crater in the afternoon and drive to Serengeti National Park where you will overnight at Mgunga Serengeti Camp (https://mgungaportfolio.com/) for dinner and overnight
